Hereford United midfielder Ashley Sammons has left the club.

Manager Martin Foyle has decided to release Sammons from his non-contract deal at Edgar Street.

Sammons made five starts and three further appearances from the bench, scoring once during United's 2-1 win over Woking.

Foyle told the Official Hereford United Website: "To enable us to bring in a player we've had to let Ashley go."

Fellow midfielders Will Evans and James McQuilkin both featured for United on Saturday, with Foyle adding: "We gave Ashley the chance to try and win a contract, but with other midfielders stepping up their game lately we've had to let him go.

"He did OK for us, but times are hard financially across football at the moment and we've got to make some very tough decisions."

Foyle added: "We wish Ashley all the best for the future and I'd like to thank him for his efforts in the short time he's been with us."
