A Gavin McCallum brace bagged Hereford United a vital win as they fight to move up the League 2 table.

The Canadian born youngster found the back of the net in each half to earn United a 2-0 win - their first victory in six league games.

United made five changes from the side that lost 2-0 at Port Vale.

Out went the suspended Ryan Valentine and the injured Jamie Tolley, as well as Lateef Elford-Alliyu, Keith Lowe and Matt Done.

Trewick handed Football League debuts to Tyler Weir and Paul Downing, as well as recalling McCallum, James McQuilkin and Craig King to the starting XI.

After a cagey start from both sides, Hereford were to first to offer some threat in attack.

Constantine broke the offside trap on the right of the penalty area before trying to square the ball to King on the edge of the six yard box - however 'keeper Burch was down to it quickly to smother the danger.

Moments later and the visitors retaliated with a Paul Green cross flying across the face of the Bulls goalmouth - thankfully for United no Lincoln player was on hand to turn it in.

Just before the half hour mark, McCallum won a corner on the right. Constantine managed to direct his header from Pugh's flag-kick goalwards, with McCallum on hand to turn the ball powerfully into the back of the net from close range.

Straight from the restart and Pugh did well on the right to cross into the danger area, Lincoln could only clear to Lunt on the edge of the area who picked out McCallum eight yards out with a neat side foot volley.

The youngster's powerful shot rebounded off Burch and United stayed just the one goal ahead.

United continued to take control of the game and looked comfortable with their 1-0 lead at the interval.

Hereford started the second half brightly and McCallum had another opportunity to double United's lead, this time he headed narrowly wide from a high Sam Gwynne cross from the right.

Bartlett was rarely troubled all evening in the United goal, although he did well to block an effort from Lincoln skipper Scott Kerr.

United's top scorer, Leon Constantine almost managed to find the back of the net with a powerful volley from eight yards out, however his first time shot rebounded off the post and away to safety.

United continued to dominate, with the visitors failing to provide any real threat to the young United defence.

Then with 55 minutes on the clock a confident run and clever pass from Pugh set McCallum in on the left side of the area, McCallum's low left footed shot flew past Burch before nestling neatly into the back of the net to double United's advantage.

United continued to close out the game, and although they had to ride a slight comeback from Lincoln never really looked in trouble.
