Hereford United fell to a single goal defeat at the hands of Morecambe, with the Bulls failing to capitalise on a large share of possession in the second half.

Graham Turner made two changes from the side that were defeated against Lincoln with Edrissa Sonko and Richard Rose both included in the starting XI.

The game took a while to get going, but when it did it was Morecambe who had the first chance. Midfielder, Simon Hackney who tormented the United defence particularly in the first half, saw a blistering effort fly over the top of Adam Bartlett's goal.

Moments later and an attempted clearance from Richard Rose was charged down by Phil Jevons who pounced onto the loose ball before testing Bartlett with a low shot, The Bulls' keeper made a fine save turning the ball behind for a corner.

Marc Pugh almost gave United the lead, turning neatly inside the area he pushed on before sending a fierce left footed drive in on Barry Roche from an acute angle. The Morecambe keeper didn't know much about the save, with his standing leg deflecting the ball to safety.

Hereford's failure to clear a corner with any conviction saw Morecambe take the lead. Hackney turned the ball back into the area with a inch perfect cross from the left, Morecambe defender Jim Bentley lost his marker before heading home at the back post, leaving Bartlett with no chance.

Valentine missed a guilt edged opportunity to equalise for the Bulls, but his header failed to test Roche and Morecambe cleared.

Whilst the Bulls were guilty of a miss or two, the blunder of the night fell to Jevons.

Mark Duffy saw his shot tipped onto the post by Bartlett with the ball rebounding to the unmarked Jevons, eight yards from goal. With the goal at his mercy, Jevons could only side foot his effort a yard wide, to the relief of the Hereford players.

Hereford were slowly starting to get into the game as Morecambe looked to have taken their foot off the gas, and Roche was forced into another save with his feet.

Kenny Lunt picked out Leon Constantine with one of a number of perfect passes throughout the game that unlocked the visiting defence, but Constantine's right footed shot cannoned off Roche and away to safety.

The Bulls started the second half with a renewed tempo and spirit as they looked for the equaliser.

Mathieu Manset, who replaced the injured Gavin McCallum shortly before half time, added another option for the Bulls, and United looked to use the French youngster on a number of occasions.

Lunt blasted an effort from the edge of the area well over the bar, before Pugh tested Roche for the second time in the game, however Roche again came off best, making a save to deny United's top scorer.

Manset was proving to be a handful with his strength and determination and went close to equalising for the Bulls with an effort from 18 yards that flew just wide.

Constantine then sent in a decent effort from the edge of the area, but the shot didn't have quite enough curl on it to test Roche in the Morecambe goal.

United managed to find the back of the net with five minutes to go, but Constantine was adjudged to have bundled Will Haining over on his run through to goal, and Morecambe managed to hold on to all three points.
