Hereford United are calling on all of their fans to help keep the streets around their Edgar Street ground peaceful.

The club, which has a loyal following, wants fans to join them in a Ground Watch system to make sure that visiting teams and supporters get the warmest of welcomes to the city.

This follows an incident after the friendly against Plymouth on Wednesday night when one the Argyle team coach's windows was damaged by an object thrown at it.

The incident happened on the corner of Blackfriars Street and Edgar Street just as the Plymouth team were leaving for home. Police are investigating and are using CCTV footage to help them track down those responsible.

From now on the club will have extra stewards on duty outside the ground but want a helping hand from supporters.

"This seems to be a random act, and the culprit most probably has no connection with Hereford United, but we want to make sure this sort of thing doesn't happen again. Every right minded citizen of Hereford wants visitors to be given the warmest of welcomes," said Club Vice Chairman Tim Russon.

"We'd like our fans to help keep watch us as they come and go from the ground not just on match day but at any time and report anything suspicious to the police. Hopefully this was an isolated incident and the Plymouth team the unfortunate victim. It could easily have been a passing car on its way into or out of town.

"Two or three thousand extra pair of eyes will help keep the streets of Hereford peaceful," added Russon.
