With some trepidation Hereford United Youth made the relatively short trip to play Swindon Town.

The Robins had put 13 goals past the young Bulls in cup and league visits to Hereford early in the season. United were also missing two players suffering from a virus.

However, Hereford started the game extremely brightly and should have gone ahead in the first minute when Jimmy Moreton just failed to turn in an Aidan Thomas cross.

The front two continued to be a threat to the home defence but failed to find the net.

Swindon gained a corner in the 15th minute and as the ball was cleared Hereford left two home players unmarked on the back post, Matt Barnes missed controlled but still had time to regain the ball and fire past keeper Matt Gwynne at the front post.

The Bulls were not daunted by this and for the second week running the combination of skipper Joe Loftus and Thomas saw the striker score in consecutive games.

The home side then went 2-1 up with a slick move down the right with Jordan Record scoring. Hereford were still creating chances at the other end but failing to beat solid keeper Stevens.

Swindon were always quick and lively on the break and in spite of good hold up play by Will Loughman and Masimba Matapo, Josh Parsons was allowed to turn on the edge of the area and fire low into the bottom corner of the net.

At the break the score was 3-1 to the Robins.

The second half saw the home side start on the offensive and after five minutes a Matt Gwynne punched clearance landed at Parsons' feet and he chipped the ball over the keeper's head to make the score 4-1.

United now feared a repeat of the early season's scoreline but the team is now showing a greater team ethic and dug in with the defence well marshalled by Loughman.

Hereford continued to make chances at the other end and a fine move involving Dean Lee and Moreton ended with a Thomas strike brilliantly saved by Stevens.

Both sides continued to produce good attacking football but the scoreline remained unchanged.

Final score 4-1 to the home side.

After the game Swindon Head Coach Paul Bodin was generous in his praise for United's performance feeling that the scoreline did not reflect the game and was pleased his side were not a couple of goals down before they started to play.
