Hereford United Youth returned to City Sports after a three-week absence to welcome Plymouth Argyle.
The visitors demonstrated the gulf in resources between the clubs when they turned up in two min-buses with a six-person support team.
The coaching squad was headed by ex-Stoke and England player Mike Pejic.
Having put in two good performances not transmitted into results United went into the game with confidence.
However, as has often been stated youth players tend to be inconsistent.
This game proved the point once again as the young Bulls spent the first five minutes around their own goaline, defending two corners.
Luckily the visitors, led by England under-17 international Liam Head were in a generous mood and failed to capitalise on the possession in United's half.
Having weathered the first 20 minutes the Bulls began to build attacks of their own.
Once again the United front two of Jimmy Moreton and Aidan Thomas worried the Argyle defence.
In particular Thomas was a threat going forward and also won possession when chasing back.
Both strikers worked the keeper and as the half came to a close United had established a foothold in the game and went into the break all square.
Coach Pejic's thought's of his team's first half performance could be heard all round the Racecourse.
United started the second half as they had finished the first and took the game to the opposition.
Twenty minutes in, Thomas cut in from the right and unleashed a fearsome shot into the Argyle net.
Another left footed shot from Brendan Hackett brought a fine save from keeper Varazinskis as United pushed for the second goal.
Unfortunately an attack at the Hereford end saw the normally reliable Matt Gwynne spill a shot and the visitors equalised.
This woke up the Argyle team and United had a period of intense pressure. Early season this would have seen the Bulls go under but they fought back.
In the 75th minute fine work by Hackett saw Thomas head in his fourth goal in three games.
With the end of the match in sight and the possibility of a first league win the side became over anxious and gave away a lot of the ball.
With eight minutes remaining a quick clearance saw Moreton go one-on-one with his marker, out-pacing the defender but with the keeper to beat placed his shot wide of the goal.
With three minutes of normal time left the visitors broke through to score an equalising goal and claim a point.
Again United received generous praise from the opposition coach on their performance and at least this time they had a result to go with it.
