Swansea City Youth 2-0 Hereford United Youth
After winning last week United set off for South Wales and Swansea City in buoyant mood. With no fresh injuries they were able to keep the same starting line-up.
Playing in late summer sunshine the Bulls started the match in bright fashion. The third minute of the game saw Jack Biggs race clear of the home defence and just as he was about to shoot his foot was caught by a last ditch tackle.
Unlike the multi- millionaires of the Premier League the striker stayed on his feet but unfortunately was not rewarded for his honesty as the referee was seemingly the only person that failed to see the incident. This would have had a great bearing on the game as the defender would probably have been sent off as he was the last man before the keeper.
Biggs was again in a good position a few minutes later but failed to work the keeper. The next 30 minutes produced good football from both sides with Swansea playing their usual formation and playing from the back. On 33 minutes the lively DaSilva unleashed a thunderbolt which gave keeper Mat Gwynne no chance and put the Swans a goal up.
Within a minute of the first goal the home side broke down their right and Hurrell headed in the cross.
As the half came to a close Gwynne made a fine one-handed save to deny the Swans a third.
The second half started with the home side on the offensive and again switching play from side to side. Hereford continued to pass the ball well though not quite with the quality of their Welsh opponents.
Midway through the half came a defining moment as a long range shot from Will Loughman struck the Swans' bar. Laurie Marsh was the first to react from the rebound but also hit the frame of the goal.
As the game became more stretched most of the play was in the home half but United still lacked the required quality in the final third.
Loughman again struck the woodwork as the game came to a close and in injury time close range shots from Matty Lattibeaudire and Brendan Hackett were somehow beaten away. Hackett looked to be clearly held back but unfortunately the referee was too far away to see.
The game ended with a 2-0 win for the home side and a performance by the young Bulls that was not reflected in the scoreline.
